Adoption Process

NBTR requires a completely fenced in area in order to qualify for adoption.

The first step in adopting a rescued Boston (or wish to be considered for a future rescue Boston) that Nebraska Boston Terrier Rescue has listed is to complete and submit an ADOPTION APPLICATION online.  We can also email you a hard copy for you to fill out if you email Jenjen25@aol.com

We will consider an application from any state if you will be visiting the Omaha area to pick up your Boston or can make travel arrangements for the dog.  We will NOT ship Bostons.  Mostly, we adopt to residents of the States of Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wyoming.

After an application has been filled out and submitted it will be reviewed.  We will take into consideration the Bostons that you express an interest in to see if they will match your home situation.  We act in the best interests of the rescue Boston...not the potential adopter.  Sometimes for various reasons a particular Boston would not fit in a particular home.

We will keep applications on file for the period of one (1) year.

If you see a Boston that you are interested in and we have not contacted you about him/her please contact us.  We try to use your application as a guide to determine which Bostons would best fit your needs.  (i.e. We will not contact you about a Boston that is 5 years old if you marked interest only in 0-3 years or about a female Boston if you wanted a male.)

After we establish which Boston will fit your home situation we will schedule a Home Visit.  A Home Visit will be done on every prospective adopter.  We use the Home Visits to meet the prospective adopters and to make certain our rescued Bostons will have a safe environment in their new homes.  If you are in the same area that the dog is being fostered the Boston will come along to the Home Visit.

*A Home Visit is a requirement for adoption...if you do not wish to have an NBTR volunteer visit your home, please do not apply.*

If after the Home Visit is completed and you decide to adopt a Boston you will be asked to sign an Adoption Contract and pay an adoption fee.  The adoption fees go into NBTR's medical fund and helps us cover the costs of spaying/neutering, vaccinations, heartworm checks, surgeries, etc.  (ALL rescued Bostons are spayed/neutered, completely vaccinated, heartworm checked, started on heartworm preventative and have any other medical needs are addressed prior to placing them up for adoption)The fees range from $225 to $400 with the most common adoption fee being $275.

We then start a trial period for the duration of one week (it will be longer in the cases of special needs Bostons).  This is to guarantee that the Boston fits with his/her new family.  We hold on to the adoption fee during this time and then cash the fee at the end of the period.

If you have any additional questions that are not covered here please feel free to email Jenjen25@aol.com.
